Arctic Research Program - PRA

The Arctic Research Program (PRA) is established by the Law of 27 December 2017, n. 205 (Budget Law 2018) in order to achieve the objectives set by the Italian Arctic Strategy, adopted in 2015 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAE), to ensure Italian participation in the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), to the Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) and to the Ny Alesund Science Managers Committee (NySMAC), as well as to implement the commitments made by Italy with the joint declaration of the research ministers signed at the first Arctic Science Ministerial in Washington on 28 September 2016.

The PRA is approved by the MISE and MIUR Ministries and is elaborated on a three-year basis by the Scientific Committee for the Arctic (CSNA). The CNR is responsible for the operational implementation of the Annual Program (PA) which must indicate the scientific and technological research activities to be carried out in the Arctic, the necessary technical-logistic support, the human resources committed to the activities and the distribution of costs.
